Barbara Nadalini Priesnitz || LPC CLINICAL SUPERVISION
eclectic supervision for unique associates
you’ll find your ideal clients when you march to your own beat
I offer eclectic LPC clinical supervision, ideal for self-motivated new therapists who are already marching to the beat of their own unique drum, for whom traditional supervision may feel constrained or too normative.
I provide a compassionate, encouraging and judgment-free environment in which to explore your goals and dreams while meeting state guidelines and learning to color creatively inside the lines.
When I became a therapist, I really wanted to do Past Life Regressions because I’d had a transformative regression experience myself. But I felt like I needed to postpone my goals because my supervisor, while clinically excellent, was blatantly dismissive of my spiritual “new age” interests.
The truth is, you can do both. You can learn and practice clinical excellence and integrate your personal interests. When you “fly your freak flag,” your clients will find you. Otherwise it is easy to get lost in the endless flow of new therapists.
I want to work with Associates who are passionate about their training, and are ready to share with the rest of the group about what they are learning. We will all grow and be expanded by learning together, without needing to be in agreement or to be practicing in the same ways.
MY EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND
I completed my 3000 hours in Austin, Texas at Capital Area Counseling (volunteer community mental health) and in private practice. I had great experiences at both sites, and I still have some clients from both locations. Once I was fully licensed, I took insurance (BCBS only) for the first 2 years, because they were paying $84/hour (2015) and that was more than $0/hour. After two years, I stopped taking insurance, and started working private-pay, with a sliding scale. I used Google Ads for 5 years. I also make my own websites and handle my own billing.
I have now been in private practice for 11 years and my practice is exactly where I like it. I haven’t advertised in the last 5 years, and I have seen more than 1000 individual clients in that time. Because I don’t personally require that my clients come weekly (something we can discuss, do it your own way), I tend to keep very long-term relationships with more clients, who feel free to pop in when they hit a road bump they want to process. I call these “fly balls” and I still get about 3-5 fly balls every single week. It takes time to build up that big of a bench, but it works great.
Because of this, I can offer guidance for working in different settings, with getting on (and off) insurance panels, advertising and self-promotion. You should figure out how much money you want / need to make, and then work on a 3-year and 5-year plan. Psychotherapy is a long-career, longer than most. It’s a lot of money and a lot of work to get there, but you can work into your old age and be considered better and better as you age! It’s a beautiful way to contribute in the world and make a living with flexibility and (eventually) great earning potential.
I am not presently offering site-placement or employment. But I can help you brainstorm opportunities, and I may be able to make references or introductions.
I LOVE this work and I believe it whole-heartedly. It would be my honor to work with you as you jump through the hoops and land on your feet!
